Back to School Shopping

If you’ve been following along on my blog for a few months or most of 2020, you know that part of my 100 Things Project, I joined a group called Rocky Mountain Alliance (RMA) as part of my Volunteering/Giving Back in my Thing to Start category. One of the main reasons I joined this organization was because of an event I did as Miss Colorado USA.

The event was called Back to School Shopping which was where kids that couldn’t afford school supplies got to pick out $100 worth of clothes and school supplies! This was such a fun and heart warming event. Every child left the event with excitement about the first day of school. Before doing this event last year, I had never realized how stressful the beginning of school could be for kids who couldn’t afford school supplies. Growing up, I was so fortunate that my parents always made a big deal about going to school, getting new supplies, and outfits. I had never realized the pain it could some others.

Back to School Shopping looks a little different this year. Normally, these backpacks would be funded by the events that RMA puts on throughout the year to give back to the under privileged children in the Denver Metro area. Instead of events to fund the backpacks, we are doing a virtual fundraiser.

I am so heartbroken that we will not be able to do this event in person. I was really looking forward to getting to know some of the kids that we are helping, taking them shopping in Walmart, and talking all about their first day of school.

Due COVID- 19, this year has been particularly challenging for RMA as an organization. Without our events and fundraisers, we will not have nearly the amount of money to donate to various organizations like we have in the past. Our goal at the beginning of the year was to donate $200,000 back into organizations in the Denver Metro area. Unfortunately, this goal will not be met, but we are doing what we can for the underprivileged children in the Denver Metro Area.

I know everyone has faced hard times with COVID- 19 (myself included) and most of us are still facing those hard times, but if this wasn’t important to me I wouldn’t be writing this post.

If you have any means to donate supplies or donate directly to the fundraiser, or even just share, please click the link. Even the smallest amount of money can add up in a big way.

XO,

Madison
