Glass half full or Glass half empty?

You know that saying where people refer to a glass as half full or half empty…. everyone chooses to look at the glass differently even-though we all are seeing the same thing. I think right now with what is going on in the world, this saying is very relevant.

Nope, I am not going to talk to you about the Coronavirus because it is all we are talking about nowadays, and that isn’t how I choose to use my space and community.

Today, I want to talk about your mindset which I do a lot, I know… but really I think it takes a lot of hearing something before you actually decide to try it.

First, if you haven’t figured out by now, I am a glass half full type of person. I will smother you with so much positivity that even you will believe in yourself and things that you never thought were possible.

I know right now a lot of people are not on their normal schedules which can really affect you mentally.

I encourage everyone to think of this as an opportunity….. Just because your schedule is different, doesn’t mean that has to be negative. I know a lot of mom’s are home with their kids. I’m not a mom, but I am an aunt and realize it is hard AF to get anything done with kids around. Maybe try to accept that your house isn’t going to be perfect all the time, but this is a time that your kids will remember forever; so make it count. By choosing what kind of perspective to have, you are choosing if you want to be happy or miserable. That choice is yours.

It sounds simple, but how do you really choose your perspective?

Sure, you can’t control your first thought…. for example have you ever been in a work out class and the instructor goes okay 20 burpees and 15 sprints today, first automatic thought for me is “FUCK!” (didn’t control that thought)…. you can control your second thought which for me would be, “I can do this. Take it one at time.” It’s not easy to control our thoughts, but now is the time to start. Start right now…..today, even just a couple times, and notice how your day and overall mood changes.

I’m sure you’re thinking, “Okay, Madison you work from home, really your life has not changed. How are you talking to me about mindset and perspective?”

I have spent almost the last two weeks at my parents’ house in Lamar, so trust me, my normal schedule is all sorts of messed up. I’m heading back to Denver here in a few days and my schedule will still be messed up, up there. A normal day for me would involve one or two work outs, and going to a coffee shop or restaurant… I do not normally have any social interaction unless I have meetings, or when I go do my activities of working out or getting coffee/eating. It doesn’t sound like a huge change, but those are the things I look forward to so going back will be a huge transition. As an extrovert, I crave those little interactions and that has been what I have missed most during this extraordinary time.

I am choosing to be positive and look at this as a way to improve and challenge myself. There is always time to grow, and I am sure my future self will be grateful that I chose to look at this in a positive light.

I hope you choose to use this time to look at the glass as full rather than half empty not just now, but always.
